February, 2002
February is providing us with some incredibly entertaining releases as the
Cranes regroup for their fifth album after their latest, Population Four
was released waaaay back in '97! Siblings Alison Shaw (vocals, guitar) and
Jim Shaw (guitars, programming, drums) join with guitarist Paul Smith and
new members Jon Callender (drums) and Ben Baxter (bass) to continue in
their revered experimental, languid, haunting, melancholic, hypnotic,
rippling, dreamlike sound. Alison's voice is as childlike as ever before as
though suspended in time, eerie yet soothing, projecting lyrics with
profound beauty and innocence. This is the ultimate chill-out album with
great spiritual experiencing consequences.
