After what seems like an age, the cranes return refreshed with a delicious
collection that should win your heart as well as your head. In Alison Shaw
the band have a singer that possesses a unique voice. Breathy and
childlike it often belies the sometimes dark nature of the songs. And with
the lyrics fragmented and the music having the air of detachment and
otherworldliness, the band are inhabiting the same grainy smoky world as
Portishead and Mojave 3. Title track 'Future Song' is classic Cranes with
Shaws voice dreamily floating above an almost cinematic sounding backdrop
of gentle guitars, strings and scratchy rhythms.
