Review(s)
It's the fourth time I see Cranes live, but that's because I'm crazy enough
to travel to Zurich and Portsmouth to see a show of my favorite band!...
Else I should have stayed with the memory of their '97 show at Frontiera, in
Rome: my first time with Cranes, but now...
After a short show by the local support band Crash (think about the old
Litfiba with a 2001 boy band look), the so much waited Cranes' show begins.
It starts with "Future Song" and it goes on with some other songs from their
latest album. Not so much people know those tunes, but all of them are
enraptured by Ali's voice and the band's tunes... The most criticizing
people could tell about how Ali's voice seemed tired, or about Jim's
mistakes or lack of memory in a song of two (he was ill the night before)...
But that's absolutely unrelevant to the atmosphere you can breath at a
Cranes' show! The new songs successfully melted with "To Be" and "Breeze"
(from "Population 4"), with "Reverie" (from "Loved") and with "Jewel", "Far
Away" and the monumental "Adrift" (from "Forever"). Then the band left the
stage for the usual 'encore!' ritual... And it worked!! They came back and
played "Cloudless", "E.g. Shining" (!!) and "Adoration"!... Oh... Then they
went away again, but the enchantment was not to be broken so soon... And
they came for the very last one: "Paris and Rome"!
It was wonderful! The sound was not so great, especially in the first part
of the show, when Ali's voice was echoing all over the venue... But the
music was good enough to let us all forget about that!!
