As the delicate introduction of 'Cloudless' filled the room, the absence of the band on the stage, the excitement was tense. One by one Paul then Jon then Jim stood rather aimlessly until Ali finally took her stance behind her mic. Her ethereal tones began to fill the air and everyone sighed with relief - it was that time again - that time to relish in a date that had been waited for, for so long.

There was a homely air to the whole event although there were people who flew in from the US, Scotland and Switzerland to name but a few. Strange how a band that have been unseen for so long that they still pull the crowds from afar - hardcore fans - you better believe it!

As the songs kept pounding out the more the crowd were taken aback. The whole repertoire of a history gone by with the introduction of some welcomed new songs that received an astounding response. If you have ever been to a Cranes Tour gig you should have been there - the best highlights from them all were displayed with ease. Music that sucks your soul leaving you breathless and almost tearful.

There were your typical black mopped leather trouser types alongside your middle class professional chaps and teeny bop girls that were all equally swept up in the occasion that proved that the Cranes are truly a band to worship whatever your background and taste may be.

With songs varying from 'Adrift' to 'Tangled Up' displaying a band that are uniquely brutal yet delicate. The smiles from the band were emanating from the satisfaction of knowing 'We're back...'

One encore, don't be silly - three as the crowd refused to accept that their perfect night was over.

Afterwards the band were the perfect hosts to their home gig gladly signing autographs and getting pictures taken with ecstatic fans - don't becomplacent with this fact - this was one of the highlights of the night as they are a band not to disappoint their fans onstage or off.
