Eurorock was being held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday 3-4-5 August in Neerpelt, Belgium (just near the Dutch border). The festival was being held for the 3rd year in row. It has an overall gothic/metal theming (with Friday emphasizing the gothic music and Sunday the more powerfull metal). For the first year, the festival was being combined with the Neerpel Open Air event on Saturday, which was the event that listed Cranes. They used the biggest stage for the Neerpelt-perfomances. Neerpelt Open Air had a slightly more mainstream line-up of performers, so I am not sure why they put Cranes there (but then again: what kind of musical environment will perfectly fit Cranes?)

Cranes was planned from 19.50 till 20.50, but they only started way past 20.00. All members were there. They played mainly songs from Future Songs, but also some from other albums like Forever. It's a shame that they didn't play a single song from (their best album) Wings of Joy :-( At about 20.40, someone from the side of stage informed the band that they had to stop, so they started to play Far Away. During the first piano-notes, the public (appearently Cranes-fans) applauded laudly. After that, Alison appologized for the short show (it did not even last 40 minutes), and then they dissapeared. The main act at Neerpelt Open Air played after Cranes (a Dutch band named Krezip), and they appearently needed the time to prepare the stage with their special equipment and decorations (what a huge contrast between the simple but stylish perfomance of Alison and the band).

Overal, the show was good, but the sound -from a technical point of view- was horrible! I think that the band also was quite upset about this, although they tried to hide this for the public as much as possible. There were not many people attending the show. I think this was mainly due to the fact that a rather popular gothic metal band called After Forever (which I myself also like a lot, see my site) held a signing session exactly during the Cranes perfomance, but it took place at the other side of the festival ground.

In the evening, we saw Alison and Paul walking trough the crowd carring some of the "Future Songs - New album out now" posters, which they probably tried to get to be exposed at the festival market. Me and my friends walked up to her and told her that we liked the show. She allowed us to take a photo of us with her (see my site), and they even gave us some of the posters. Judging from her mood, they *were* still enjoying themselves (or she just is always this nice to people, don't know, it was the first time I met her in person).
